CEBRIUS (cenobamate) is a once-daily oral antiseizure medication approved in India as add-on (adjunctive) therapy for adults with drug-resistant focal (partial-onset) epilepsy that remains inadequately controlled despite two or more prior antiseizure medications. With a dual, complementary mechanism of action, CEBRIUS is designed to help reduce seizure frequency — and, for a meaningful subset of appropriately selected patients, work towards sustained seizure freedom — when used under the guidance of a neurologist and a carefully individualized titration schedule.
Focal (partial-onset) seizures begin in one area of the brain and can remain localized or spread further. When seizures continue despite adequate trials of two or more antiseizure medications, the condition is considered drug-resistant. This can mean ongoing uncertainty, breakthrough seizures, and a treatment plan that needs to evolve.
CEBRIUS was developed and studied specifically for this population — as an add-on to existing therapy, not a replacement — giving neurologists another mechanism-based option when standard treatment alone hasn't been enough.
Pivotal clinical trials (C013, C017, C021) in drug-resistant focal epilepsy
Tablet strengths — 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg — for individualized titration
Once-daily tablet, taken with or without food, swallowed whole
CEBRIUS is started at a low dose and increased gradually over several weeks, under close medical supervision. This deliberately slow schedule is central to using CEBRIUS safely.
| Week | Daily Dose |
|---|---|
| Weeks 1–2 | 12.5 mg once daily |
| Weeks 3–4 | 25 mg once daily |
| Weeks 5–6 | 50 mg once daily |
| Weeks 7–8 | 100 mg once daily |
| Week 11 onward | 200 mg once daily (recommended maintenance dose) |
Titration must never be accelerated beyond the recommended schedule — more rapid titration has been associated with serious hypersensitivity reactions, including DRESS.

Practical strategies, seizure action plans and staying connected with your care team.
Roughly 1 in 3 people living with epilepsy continue to have seizures despite treatment with two or more antiseizure medications — this is known as drug-resistant epilepsy. CEBRIUS was studied specifically as an adjunctive option for this group.
If you care for someone living with epilepsy, you play a vital role in recognizing symptoms, keeping treatment on track, and knowing what to do during a seizure.
